Hollywood Edge Releases Two New SFX Collections!

November 12, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, November 12, 2009– The Hollywood Edge has released two sound effects collections designed to provide sound professionals with new tools to create that perfect moment or take audiences on a journey into the great unknown.

Musical Accents is a selection of accents, transitions, ambiances and hits suitable for a broad range of productions. The collection features more than 1000 effects produced exclusively for The Hollywood Edge by award-winning sound designer Kamen Atanasov, creator of Sound Designer Tool Kit 2 and The Edge Edition 3.
Musical Accents is a unique collection containing more than 40 real instruments. All instruments are real, recorded, edited, mixed and mastered. (No Synths) Symphonic, brass, violins, pianos, timpanist, harp, accordion, guitars, mouthorgan, harpsichord, xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, a variety of drums, cymbals and percussions, beat box, exotic instruments, cartoon effects.
This set overflows with 1077 musical accents, elements, logos and sound effects, all in 3 CD’s along with a .wav DVD all in 24bit Stereo 48kHz. With a variety of moods – dramatic, action, exotic, scary, horror, tension, funny, comedy – Musical Accent is a multi- purpose collection and must have for every creative sound project – from horror films to funny cartoons!

“For this collection, I made raw recordings of more than 40 instruments, including grand pianos and Chinese instruments,” says Atanasov. “I had a lot of fun
manipulating and bending sounds in order to produce unique and fresh effects.”

Cosmic Environments represents the latest work from Bob Hart, creator of The Hollywood Edge’s Alien Machine Shop collection. The new package draws on the dark side with 450 all-new effects steeped in creepiness, tension and foreboding. Hart created the collection by traipsing through junkyards and factories armed with a field recorder and a vivid imagination.

“This library is meant to fill a void for a certain kind of atmospherics that are a bit creepy and hard to put your finger on,” explains Hart. “I took sounds that were recorded in the field and put them through multiple effects and synths resulting in effects that truly have never been heard before.”

Both Musical Accents and Cosmic Environments are available now at www.hollywoodedge.com.

The Edge Edition 3

October 20, 2009

For those of you needing visual stimulation, we’ve finally come up with some:

Head on over to hollywoodedge.com for purchasing information. And don’t forget to check out the community contest going on.

Community Contest Number 2

October 15, 2009

I’d like to kick off our second contest of which we hope to become a series.. We’ve created a video with very little sound. As you’ll see by watching it, it’s very boring and not entertaining at all to watch… The contestant’s job will be to take the ZIP file of sounds I’ve linked to at the bottom of this post, and make it entertaining.

Simple enough?

There are around 80 sound effects included, and you are free to use our 99 Free Sound Effects located on hollywoodedge.com. You’re welcome to dub any vocals you’d like, but to keep things fair we’re limiting the actual sound effect usage to what we’re providing for free.

Be creative- there’s a lot of sounds in there, some that would seem to fit in the video and some that would not. Don’t feel constricted to make things too “real;” explore what you can do with sounds that may not match the environment.

Your goal will be simply to make it entertaining, with a hope that any viewer will not feel that they’ve wasted two minutes of their lives by watching it. Be as abstract and creative and wacky as you’d like—this contest will be judged solely on entertainment.

First place will receive their choice of one of our new sets (Alien Machine Shop, The Edge 3, Cosmic Environments, or Musical Accents), while second and third place may choose between any of the Premiere Edition 8, 9 or 10 sets. Winning videos will put up here on the community and on our YouTube page. One entry per contestant.

Again, regardless of the number of contestants, if your creativity is even somewhere close to where I believe it to be, I believe that this will be a pretty entertaining gig. Be creative: don’t always adhere to what’s expected.

All entries will be due by Thanksgiving (you non-Americans can research what day that will be). Submit your entry on the contest thread. Good luck!

T.H.E. Community is Back!

October 9, 2009

The Hollywood Edge would like to curtly re-introduce its community forums. There have been some server-switch/downtime problems and they haven’t been available as of late, but now all is well and ready for action!

For those unfamiliar, the community is simply a location for not only THE users, but for all amateur and professional musicians and sound designers to network and discuss the latest going-ons in the world of audio or entertainment. We also will be holding monthly contests in which you will be available to show off your creativity in a chance to win one of a select few sound effect sets from our inventory.

The first contest will arrive early next week, so look out for it! And in the meantime, check out one of our upcoming sets (see it within the next two weeks!) on YouTube and go introduce yourself on the forums!

And don’t forget there are always free sound effects waiting for you…

The Hollywood Edge Releases Two New SFX Collections

October 1, 2009

HOLLYWOOD; September 22, 2009 – Sounds from the deepest corners of the basement to the furthest reaches of the galaxy are featured on two superb new sound effects collections available from The Hollywood Edge.

The Edge Edition 3

The Edge Edition III, the latest from The Hollywood Edge’s popular “Edge” series, is a 6-CD or 1-DVD collection designed especially for budget-minded users seeking to quickly build a library of high-quality, practical sounds. Created by award-winning Bulgarian sound designer Kamen Atanasov, the collection encompasses such categories as construction, offices, traffic and homes. Produced exclusively for The Hollywood Edge, each and every sound conforms to the highest recording standards and is suitable for all production situations.

“I find that old houses have lots of hidden sound treasures in their corners, basements and attics. I love all their creaky and squeaky objects,” says Atanasov. “We went to extraordinary lengths in order to discover and catch interesting, unique and dynamic sounds for The Edge Edition III.”

Alien Machine Shop

Created by Canadian sound maestro Bob Hart, Alien Machine Shop is a collection of more than 480 sounds with a decidedly otherworldly flavor. Employing incredible inventiveness, Hart and his team took raw elements and twisted, bent, scratched and hammered them into tension-filled, agitated forms. The resulting machine-like soundscapes are abnormal, mystifying, discordant—jarring to the ear and unsettling to the mind. They are ideal for adding unease and tension to a scene or production.

“The idea was to create things that didn’t exist,” notes Hart. “I took my field recorder to factories and junkyards searching for interesting objects to bang together. Hitting a gas tank with a hammer is one thing—hitting it with a coil spring and an oil pan produces a different sound altogether. Especially at 30 below zero!”

Check out The Edge Edition III and Alien Machine Shop along with all our other high quality, professional sound effect collections at www.hollywoodedge.com.
